St John's P.S Gilford

Belfast Film Festival

7th Nov 2021

How amazing to have our P.7 pupil Jude, lead the stars on the red carpet on the opening night of the Belfast Film Festival at the Waterfront Hall on Thursday 4th Nov 2021.

Jude plays the lead role in Kenneth Branagh’s movie ‘Belfast’ in which Ken, through the eyes of his 10 year old self, played by Jude, tells his story of growing up in the city in the late 1960’s.

As an emotional Kenneth Branagh introduced the movie, it didn’t disappoint! The movie was full of emotion and through love, laughter and loss, relives Ken’s memories of his family and their struggles at that time. There was not a dry eye in the house and it was certainly a night to remember.

Jude stole the show with his lead performance and backed it up with his witty responses in the Q&A with Patrick Kielty afterwards.

Mrs Lyness was very privileged to receive a VIP invitation to the screening and certainly worked the room afterwards to ensure she got photos with all the cast members who were very accommodating and thankful to St. John’s for allowing Jude time out to attend his filming. Unfortunately Dame Judi Dench was unable to attend.

Congratulations Jude on your award winning performance which we have certainly not heard the last of I imagine…………..unfortunately everyone will have to wait until the movie’s release on 21st Jan 2022 to see it, but rest assured it will be worth waiting on!!
