Celebrating Road Safety Success at St. John’s!
23rd Jun 2025
We’re delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Primary Two, Three, Four and Five pupils who recently took part in pedestrian safety activities aimed at developing their awareness and understanding of road safety.
Primary Two pupils in Mr King’s class explored key road safety concepts through class discussions and activities. They learned about the Green Cross Code, how to recognise different types of pedestrian crossings and how to stay safe when walking near roads. This important early learning helps build their awareness and confidence when out and about in the local area.
Meanwhile, our P3, P4 and P5 pupils successfully completed the Practical Child Pedestrian Safety Training Scheme, taking part in Stages One, Two and Three of the programme. As part of their training, the children joined a road safety walk around Gilford, identifying and discussing real-life traffic situations.
The programme is delivered in St. John’s by class teachers with the co-operation and support of the Department of Education’s Road Safety Education Officers. A big thank you also goes to Gareth McIlwaine from the Active Travel Team, who has supported us for many years with the implementation and delivery of this fantastic scheme. His continued commitment has been greatly appreciated.
All pupils received certificates in a special school assembly to recognise their efforts. Well done, boys and girls—keep using your road safety skills every day
