Grandparents’ Reading Project and Paired Reading Programme 2026

2nd Mar 2026
Our P1–P4 pupils were full of excitement today as they selected their books to launch the Grandparents’ Reading Project (P1–P3) and the Paired Reading Programme (P4). These long?running initiatives will run over the next four weeks and continue to highlight the importance of regular, shared reading at home.
We encourage all children to read with a parent, guardian, grandparent, or another supportive adult at least four times each week. Parents and carers take the lead in this part of the programme, helping pupils to build confidence, develop reading fluency, and enjoy quality time together.
In addition to home reading, every pupil will be paired with a reading buddy from Mrs McCarthy’s and Mr McParland’s classes. These buddies will read together twice a week in school for 15–20 minutes, giving pupils another valuable opportunity to practise and enjoy reading in a supportive environment.
Parents can find more information about how the Paired Reading programme works in the attached parent flyer and PowerPoint presentation.
We hope the coming weeks bring lots of enjoyment, confidence, and meaningful shared moments—both at home and in school. Happy reading!
