Many Thanks Nuala!
Many thanks to Nuala Monaghan, an Irish illustrator from Laurencetown, who can be seen making a presentation to some of our pupils below.
Nuala is a member of the Lurgan based Art group, The Shore Collective. The Collective recently received funds from ABC Council, which Nuala used to create a Mythology based activity booklet for 7-9 year olds. The booklet is based on ‘The Dagda's Harp’.
The Dagda, one of the God's of the Tuath De Danann, had 3 treasures; a club that could harm on one side and heal with the other; a cauldron, that would feed any number of people that needed to eat from it; and of course his harp, which could make anyone laugh, cry, dance or sleep should the Dagda play it.
Using her experience as a tour guide in Navan Fort in Armagh, Nuala has filled the booklet with lots of interesting information including; the story of his harp; an explanation of who the Gods were; and some insight into the life of an Iron Age Celt.
Nuala very kindly donated a number of copies of her book to the boys and girls of St. John’s.
Further information and downloadable material can be found on her website below.
