Visit to Palace Stables
30th Jan 2024
The boys and girls from St. John's and Seagoe Primary School had a great day at Palace Stables in Armagh on Tuesday 30th January. They learned about life in Victorian times during the reign of Queen Victoria. We met the Head Butler Mr Heaney and heard about all the jobs children were expected to do from a very young age, such as cleaning the chimney, cleaning the sewer and even acting as a door stopper. The pupils enjoyed finding out about the games that children played during the 1890's. They also met Master Armstrong, their school teacher. He started by inspecting their hands and shoes and taught them lots about the 3Rs. Everyone enjoyed participating in different role play activities. We heard about the jobs people did in a Palace from butler, lady's maid and pot boy. We are looking forward to our next meeting with Seagoe Primary School on 12th March.
